KEB’s AS330 integrated drive controller combines escalator control and motor drive functions in a single industrial system, aiming to improve safety, responsiveness and maintenance efficiency. The unit uses dual 32-bit microcontrollers, redundant safety monitoring and CAN-based diagnostics. It is designed for public transport escalators where reliability and uptime are critical.
Escalator systems are often complicated by the separation of drive and control logic. The AS330 series combines both functions, using two embedded 32-bit microcontrollers that coordinate escalator operation and motor control. The integrated design simplifies system architecture and, according to the manufacturer, improves response speed and operational stability through closer processor interaction.
For public transport equipment, safety is a non-negotiable requirement. The AS330 series uses a redundant safety design in which the control processor and drive processor form a dual protection mechanism. The architecture is intended to monitor operating conditions in real time and trigger protective action quickly if an abnormality is detected, including under extreme conditions.
The controller uses sixth-generation module technology with a maximum junction temperature tolerance of 175°C, giving it greater thermal stability under high-load conditions. Its hardware design also seeks to reduce switching losses, improving energy efficiency and extending equipment service life. The manufacturer says the unit’s interference immunity exceeds the highest industrial design requirements, allowing it to operate in complex electromagnetic environments.
The main specifications cover processing, power modules, thermal tolerance, communications and protection.
| Feature | Technical implementation |
|---|---|
| Processor architecture | Dual 32-bit embedded microcontrollers |
| Hardware module | Sixth-generation high-performance power module |
| Junction temperature tolerance | Up to 175°C |
| Communication protocol | CAN bus for safety chain and fault display |
| Protection design | Redundant control and drive protection |
To reduce installation difficulty and maintenance costs, the AS330 series upgrades system communications. Safety-chain fault acquisition boards at the upper and lower ends use CAN technology, cutting the amount of field wiring and lowering the risk of downtime caused by cable faults. A CAN fault display board provides direct status feedback, helping maintenance staff locate problems quickly and improving service efficiency.
